Childcare Cape Town
During my three-week program in Cape Town, I volunteered at a childcare center in a low-income area, where I assisted with early childhood education. My role involved supporting local teachers in providing high-quality care and education to children from nearby farms, villages, and communities. I engaged in teaching, planning lessons, arranging games and activities, and helping with daily tasks such as feeding and cleaning up after meals. This experience allowed me to contribute to the development of these children, improve my communication skills, and immerse myself in South African culture while making a meaningful impact on the local community.
Camp Nogalitos
For the past three summers, I have worked as a counselor and teacher at a summer camp for the children of Los Nogales school’s staff. I teach English language skills and introduce the campers to different cultures through various traditional dishes.
2torias
As the co-founder and Coordinator of the English and Sustainability Department for 2torias, I spearheaded a crowdfunding campaign to support the education of children who have been victims of domestic violence. I recruited over 40 students from my school to become tutors, and personally tutored students from diverse backgrounds in subjects including English, Math, Spanish, Technology, and Sustainability.
Global Citizens Initiative
In 2021, I participated in the international Lead Challenge program through Global Citizens Initiative, a non-profit that empowers youth to work towards social change. I developed a social program for a tutoring project in Bogotá, Colombia, and received funding for the construction of a new library.
Construcción de Paz
Through a Peace Building Initiative in rural Colombia, I was able to work on a microfinance project supporting Colombians affected by violence to sell agricultural & artisanal products. These trips were also an opportunity to learn from local survivors and educate our peers about historical, social, economic, and geographic factors of violence.
Banco de Alimentos
Banco de Alimentos is a non-profit organization that seeks to improve the food and nutritional security of the country's most disadvantaged citizens by reducing food waste. It promotes private companies, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations, to help vulnerable communities suffering from food insecurity and malnutrition. We made a meaningful impact by setting up groceries and efficiently organizing inventory distribution to uplift communities in need.
La Guajira
Supported multiple Wayuu indigenous community "rancherías" in La Guajira. We built a water mill, painted educational facilities, and provided food and school supplies for children in the community.
